The primordial history of Garhwal has been written with the Katyuri Kings who ruled over Joshimath and during 11 century moved to Almora. When they shifted from Garhwal, many regional powers prospered amongst which Panwar Dynasty became the most powerful and later successfully reigned over Chandpur Garhi.
