Chaukhamba is one of the highest mountains situated entirely within India. It is a part of Gangotri group of majestic Garhwal Himalayas. It got its name from its four summits. In local Garhwali dialect, Chau+Khamba means four pillars. The elevation of the highest summit of Chaukhamba peak is 7,138 m (23,419 ft) !
